Dominion Virginia Power Is Cranking UP ITS ENERGYSHARE Progam In 2012:

Attention People Who Need Help:
Dominion Virginia Power has cranked up its EnergyShare program for the winter. The program aims to help families in need with their heating bills, Dominion spokeswoman, Le-Ha Anderson said.

According to Anderson, the program is administered through the local charities Action in the Community Through Service and Securing Emergency Resources through Volunteer Efforts, is not necessarily based on income but on a person’s need.

People might be going through a crisis that is causing them to have difficulty in paying their electric bill or their gas bill or any sort of heating that is used in their home.

According to Anderson, the program can provide assistance to those who don’t use electricity to heat their homes. She also indicated, they know that families use different sources of heat and the program wants to provide the assistance regardless of what the source may be. The program is to help families who are in a situation where they are in need of help.

Donations helps to pay for the program.

Anderson also indicated, the program also needs people who have the means to make donations to the EnergyShare program so ACTS and SERVE can meet that need. You can also go on line and donate or you can call the center and give them your credit card number, or you can send a check and says it’s for the EnergyShare program.

Director of SERVE, a program of Northern Virginia Family Service, Andrea Zych said, the charity spent $137,048 to help with heating bills last year. The money went to 756 families representing 2,709 people, of which 52 percent were children.

Zych indicated, it’s critical direct assistance to vulnerable families during the peak energy season.

If a person has received a shut-off notice, people are eligible to sign up for the service through SERVE, said Zych.

People who are in need in the Manassas, Manassas Park and Western Prince William County can call SERVE at 703-368-2979, ext. 1119.

People who are in need in Eastern Prince William County can call ACTS at 703-369-6751.
