1993 Pontiac Sunbird: The Best Car I Ever Owned

If we took a survey of the best vehicle we have ever owned, chances are everyone would say something different. Some might say a sports car, and others might say a full size sedan. We all have our preferences. While I have only owned a couple of vehicles in my lifetime, the best vehicle I have ever owned was a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird.

The car

From the summer of 1993 when I first saw it sitting on the car dealership’s lot to August 2001 when I bid it a fond farewell, this Sunbird was my mode of transportation. The best car I ever owned took me all around my hometown, to a few select towns within an hour and even to Myrtle Beach almost 800 miles away. The car was a two-door and a light turquoise in color with white Naugahyde seats. It had a V6 engine so it didn’t get the best gas mileage, but that didn’t matter then since gas prices weren’t what they are now.

Not many repairs

I feel I was pretty lucky in the fact that the car didn’t give me mechanical problems. Other than oil changes and a few routine things like rotating the tires, my best car was the easiest to own. Of course, as it got older, its true colors began to show. Right before I traded it for a newer and bigger vehicle, the air conditioner went out in the summer. It just had to be a summer when it was unbearably hot.

Drawback

As I stated earlier, this Sunbird was only a two-door. With two young children, both of whom were in some sort of car seat, it was a treat trying to place them in the back seat. With my firstborn I could put her in the middle of the backseat, and a couple of small adults could ride back there with her. However, with the addition of my second born child, two car seats quickly filled up the back seat. The easiest way to fasten them in was for me to crawl in the back seat. It wasn’t an easy task, but I didn’t have much of a choice at that time.

The best car I have ever owned was a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird. It was flawless from repairs until the car got older and started showing wear and tear. I don’t regret ever owning the car, and sometimes wish I had it back. I sure miss that old car.
