Panic Attacks, Anxiety Attacks, Feel sick when outside, Whats wrong with me?
Q: Up till 3 days ago i was a normal 22 year old guy, live fast , live fun, a bit stressed but not really badly. On Saturday i appeared to have had a panic attack ( thats what the ambulance guys said) My vision went really blurred, i could not breathe, all i could hear was my heart pounding…in all honesty i thought i was going to die. My main concern is its now 3 days later and i do generally feel better….but my vision is really spacey, my head feels really heavy, my eyes feel tired and when i go outside i feel really panicky and feel like im going to pass out? Even if i sleep 12 hours a day i never feel awake…..anyone else going through the same thing or has anyone else got any suggestions to get back to normal? Im really scared because i feel like i am a totally changed person now and it has happened so instantly.I can deal with most the symptoms that i am getting, and im just wondering if their is anyway to cure the vision/blurred problem as this is giving me the worst problem? Also it would be great to really here if anyone else had this kinda problem and if they was able to cure it quickly with meds from the doctors and such?it may sound stupid i know….but i don’t feel like im in my own body at all…..it feels like im 5 foot behind my own eyes and im having to squint to see what they are seeing, along with the heart racing and numbness of hands and feet and the general feeling of having to take deep breaths all the time….. im so concerned, and no-one seems to realize how bad it is. Everyones just thinks its about having an attack for 5 mins here and their but you will be fine again….hmmm…thanks for your answers soo far guys, its helping.
A: I experienced the same thingfor the first time at right about the same age. The feelings you had are terrifying, I know. That leads to avoidance behavior. In other words, you begin to fear the fear, so you start limiting yourself in order to avoid having that feeling again. Generally, these things happen for no reason at all, but you may have a tendency to relate the feelings you experienced with what you were doing at the time. So you avoid doing that again.I was so ashamed I was not in control of myself, I didn’t tell anyone about it for years. The shame and attempt to hide it from others led to increasingly more avoidance behavior. Its extremely embarrassing to be in the middle of the grocery store with a cart full of goods and have to run out and jump in the car. I turned into a liar to avoid the grocery store. Oh, I’m too busy or my car broke down, could you pick up a few things for me?This may be an isolated incident, but it doesn’t sound like it. I would very strongly suggest you get to a counselor or therapist as soon as possible, before you find yourself putting your entire life on HOLD. You are much too young and have too much to offer to suffer with this. It is much better understood now and much less stigma attached to seeking proper treatment. There is nothing for you to be ashamed of.There are underlying reasons for why this happened. They may be organic, in other words you are pre-disposed to anxiety/panic disorders due to a chemical imbalance in your brain you were born with. It could be due to some sort of emotional trauma you suffered at some time in your life that you no longer remember. Don’t try to psychoanalyze yourself. Go to someone who specializes in this type of thing and offers cognitive therapy. You want to remember that specifically: Cognitive Therapy. It literally saved my life, and has given me the tools to continue to cope with these feelings when they begin to arise and before they become full-blown, but because I failed to act at the first signs I ended up being agoraphobic for 12 years. Don’t wait for someone else to give you permission for you to take control of your own well-being.
what does an anxiety attack feel like?
Q: When I get mad my head flushes and I’m overwhelmed with dizziness. My head begins to pound and my stomach feels really sick. I feel strong enough to kill. Well not really but in that state of mind I’m capable of anything but I refuse to do anything outrageous. I try my best to just lay down and ride it out. Anyone know what this is? Normal anger? Some type of anxiety?Website doesn’t work
A: well all i can tell you is how it effects me. When i get really angry i could hurt someone but i usually take my anger out on something in my room. Anxiety usually gives me breathing trouble and a tightness feeling in my throat, that i have trouble swallowing and my heart beats fast. Its really horrible and im so glad i have it under control as just 2yrs ago my breathing was that bad i couldnt manage much food or a flight of stairs like the way i should have been at my then age of 19. I still siffer with it and i guess i always will b/c i usually bottle up everything and then explode, i suppose its no wonder i consider suicide. Anxiety effects people in different ways so get tablets called EFFEXOR, i use them, take 1 every night and it keeps my breathing under control, its sooo worth it. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.
Why do I feel so sick with anxiety?
Q: I don’t know what is wrong with me. In certain situations I feel so sick with nerves. Sometimes I end up being sick or I can’t even stomach eating. It’s sometime like a claustrophobic feeling, I get hot and have this weird almost out of body feeling. I feel dizzy and will feel like I’m going to be sick. This happens all the time, visiting friends, in the pub, it makes going anywhere worrying and I would rather just stay at home than go out. I hate eating out or going anywhere now and it’s affecting my work and social life. The only way I can describe it is that I feel physically sick with nerves. I know I have no reason to be like this and I have never had a full blown panic attack. Can anyone shed some light on what they think is wrong?
A: You probably have cancer or AIDS. Or swine flu.
