Why do I get these migrains on a daily basis ?
Q: Ive been getting these severe migraines on the right side of my head since about 2005 what could be the problem besides stress which is clearly in my life.
A: Go to the doctor and have both a CAT scan and EEG done to rule out any brain disorders. Also, make sure you’re getting yearly eye exams. Bad vision is a cause of bad headaches.

Q: – I have been wearing only one contact and I’ve been wearing it for about 6 months and I’m only supposed to wear it for about 2 weeks. Could this be the cause?

why has my doctor given me anti depressants for migrains?
Q: It’s only a low dose to be taken for 6-9 months but it seems a little weird to me. I’v been taking them for about 3 months but they dont seem to be working, if anything the migrains are getting worse. Can anyone help?
A: Your doctor should have spent some time explaining his reasoning, which, despite what some people think, is actually sound.’Antidepressants’ are thus-named because their most obvious use has been to be relieve depression. Most seem to do this by increasing the amount of certain neurotransmitters in the brain (shown to be decreased in depressed people). For what it’s worth, these are principally serotonin +/- noradrenaline (norepinephrine). However, the brain is a complicated thing, and increasing these neurotransmitters does other things too. This is what causes some of the side-effects. But some of the other things that these neurotransmitters do is beneficial too. For example, they have been shown to help people with anxiety disorders – even when they’re not depressed.Of particular relevance to you, they have also been consistently been shown to help in the most common two types of headaches – tension headaches and migraines – INDEPENDENTLY of any underlying depression. In other words, you are being given drugs that happen to be called anti-depressants… but they are not being used for their antidepressant effects. Rather, they are being used for something else that they are rather good at: stopping headaches. The dose is probably too small to have any antidepressant effect anyway.Note, however, that all this doesn’t mean that these drugs will necessarily be successful. Headaches can be difficult to treat, and you may need other medications instead in your case if these continue not to help.
