Why did I get dizzy and light headed at my friends house?
Q: I’m just a little curious. I didn’t really do anything that should have caused it. But when I woke up we both went upstairs to get something to eat. I was hearing a loud ringing noise and it made it hard to concentrate on anything. I also had a very hard time with my vision. Then I got wicked light headed. I know it’s no big deal, but any ideas why this happened? It’s not the first time either.
A: Did this happen before or after you ate? When my daughter started experiencing this at around age 12,(feeling suddenly dizzy and faint, needing to sit down) I took her to the doctor who ordered a 5 hour glucose tolerance test. That test showed my daughter was severely hypoglycemic. All that meant was she has to eat a certain way, (every 3 hours with protein in every meal, limited sugar intake, no soda pop, etc., and she has to keep glucose tablets on her in case she starts feeling faint and dizzy again). There were no drugs or anything she has to take. She just needs to do another blood test once a year to make sure it doesn’t turn into diabetes. Please go to your doctor and tell them your symptoms. It might not be this, but you won’t know until you ask and/or do the test. While this condition is very managable with only changes in diet, if left unchecked it can turn into something much more serious down the road.
