Q: I have been tested for everything under the sun, post nasel drip, acid reflux, sinius infection even stds (HIV,etc..) and still the doctors dont know what is causeing my sore throat. I have had a sore throat for 4 months now and it is driving me crazy.

A: I think it would be worthwhile to see an allergist and get skin testing. I had some unusual health problems with my throat that were baffling some doctors. I did not think that I had allergies except to house dust, because I didn’t get a stuffy nose or drip, etc. I was shocked at the allergy test results, which indicated I was highly allergic to my dog, cats, dust, molds, many foods that I eat regularly that I did not associate with allergies, trees, grass, etc.. I started getting allergy shots and a lot of the problems seem to be improving (to my surprise). See an ENT specialist who also has an interest in allergies. I had been seeing a different ENT surgeon who seemed to never consider allergies and only look at the surgical end of things. The new ENT/Allergist really took a different approach to the problem.You might want to get a netti pot or Sinus Aid (see youtube.com for netti pot or sinus aid or sinus rinse to see how they are used). It rinses out your sinuses with warm salt water and is very soothing and rinses out a lot of dust, molds, and other allergens and relieve some of the symptoms.Also, have you had your tonsils out? Sometimes tonsils can harbor bad bacteria that can actually create an odor and cause intermittent sore throats.

Q: For the past 5 months ive been getting recurrent sore throats only on one side and the gland comes up to it lasts for about 1 day Maximum 2 days then goes away comes back weeks later it happens again this has been happening for 5 months now my gland on the right side of ma throat is up what could this be , when i give my bf oral it happens aswell but we both don’t have any stds im a smoker also and get a lot of ulcers in my mouth and at the moment have them and the left side is sore again and gland is still up please help me im really worried??

A: You need to see a doctor. The sore throat could be a minor symptom of mononucleosis, but the ulcers sound like something different. Thrush, a viral infection, even an STD is possible. Go to the doctor without delay. Otherwise, you run the risk of even more problems developing.
