Q: i stay in the woods and just really found out that you can contact poison ivy sumac and poison oak,, even in the winter when the plant has died off, but recently got a bad outbrake of sumac from cutting firewood and as the vine was not on the tree there were still dean vines growin all over the tre i guess it had been sumac well ater touching it while splitting and loading the fireplace i contacted it badly,,,so heres what i did i washed the areas with dawn dish washing liquid and then put and anti perspirant on it to help dry it up. i also took a hair dryer and got the affected area very hot,,, its like an or ga sm in your arm very strong euphoria eeling,,, so wich of these things helped me the most as it has dried up really fast this time…
A: From what I understand, washing the area immediately is the best thing you can do when you are exposed to poison ivy and poison oak. Therefore, that’s likely what limited the severity of your reaction. You washed off the offending irritant. Good quick thinking!
