The current drug available is the triple cocktail. It can only delay the onset of HIV taking effect, but not cure AIDS. There has not been a known drug to cure it as yet.

Q: Just like the bubonic plague shouldn’t we let people die until only those with a greater resistance to the disease emerge? What are we doing instead? Keeping people artificially alive and letting them pass onto the disease to others through ignorance. A: Aids/ Hiv the virus which causes aids is considered an uncurable disease at present. It is treatable through the use of antiviral drugs which reduce/prevent the damage that the HIV virus does to the immune system and keep the patient well and healthy however their can be complications with this and the virus is still present throughout treatment and the rest of the patients life. Cancer can be cured in many cases if found early enough through a variety of treatments such as chemotherapy (powerful cancer destroying drugs) and surgery to remove cancerous cells. Cured as a pose to treated as the cancer is no longer present after the treatment.Recently, German doctors beleive they have made a breakthrough and succesfully cured a HIV+ person for the first time, full story at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7726118.stm . Basically the patient was HIV+ and also suffering from advanced leukaemia (a form of cancer) which required a bone marrow transplant (to cure the cancer). The doctors transplanted the bone marrow of a human with genetic makeup which is resistant to the HIV virus (this makeup is excessively rare less than 1 in 1000 people). Since this surgery the HIV virus has been completely undedectable suggesting the patient is cured not only of Leukaemia but also HIV.However this is unlikely to be used as a mainstream cure due to the complexity, expense and risk of the surgery (many would die post surgery).
