What stds are tested by a doctors blood test?
Q: I recently went to the doctor with a red bump on the head of my penis, he said he didnt think it was anything but when i said i wanted an std test and i was worried about herpes he tested me for herpes, hiv, and im assuming a lot because i said i was worried. now the red bump is kind of spreading (looks like it could be dry skin) i want to know if i should go through the hassle of calling again since i havent been sexually active since
A: It depends on what tests the doctor ordered. Call back and ask what tests were run. Blood tests are used to detect HIV, syphilis, and HSV 1/2 (herpes). Urine tests are frequently used for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and swab/cultures can sometimes be done for herpes and gonorrhea/chlamydia if the situation calls for it.

Q:
A: depends on the test, blood tests usually cover syphilis and hiv, and swabs are usually gonoreaha, chlamydia, trichomonas. i might be wrong though.HPV (genital warts) isnt tested, and I dont think herpes is either but i might be wrong on that (but youd know you have it by symptoms)
