Q: random days the outside of my knee hurts..well.. it feels like its on fire..i believe it to be the lateral collateral ligament..i work on ropes courses and do a lot of awkward climbing to set it up so i am pretty sure i have stretched it (since the pain is not constant, it cant be a tear)i have enough anatomy skills to know the ligament, but no medical knowledge of what to do.i have heard to brace it while it hurts but that just seems like it would make it weaker. any ideas?should i wear a brace?

You can also use a heat rub such as Deep Heat which will soak into the skin and relax the muscles. They feel hot but will make the ache go away. When at home try ice or heat packs and immobilise the knee for rest. Rest, rest, rest. The more you push the knee the longer it will take to heal.
