What Temperature Starts a Fever?
Q: Ok, I am 13 and I was wondering, what temperature starts a fever? Cause this morning i checked it and it was like, 99.7 or something and it went a little up. My mom let me stay home from school and I was just wondering if that is considered a fever cause i am going to the doctor cause this is my 3rd day feeling sick. Please Help! Thanks!!!! ♥
A: Normal body temp is 98.6. If it is between 99 and 100.5, it’s called a low grade temp. Anything above that is a fever, and that means your body is trying to fight off a virus or bacterial infection. Fever is designed as part of our immune system to go higher when we are sick. The extra heat helps kill off any virus or bacteria that may be more sensitive to the heat. Any it’s your bodies trigger to start making more white bloood cells, and charge up your immune system a little bit to help you fight off whatever is making you sick. If you have a fever higher than 103, you should see your Doctor, if you can’t get it to go down with tylenol.Hopefully this will answer your question.
why does fits occur when temperature during fever starts to increase rapidly?
Q:
A: Enzymes in your body require a temperature of around 36-39 degree’s Celsius to function at a efficient rate. If your temperature becomes to high, the enzymes become denatured (they are not able to work anymore), there fore your metabolism is affected. Your no longer in homeostasis (stable internal environment) and therefore your bodies feedback mechanisms cannot function properly – therefore your nervous and hormonal systems do not function properly. Your body goes into shock and you have seizures.I hope this helped 🙂
Rectal temperature fever?
Q: I have a 2 month old and he’s been miserable all day long. Just recently he started to feel warm to me so when I got him to calm down for a bit I took his temperature rectally and it’s 100.5. Is this a fever? I looked through my what to expect the 1st year book and it doesn’t tell me what the starting point for temperatures taken rectally (or any way for that matter). So can someone please tell me what the starting point of a fever is for a rectal temperature? Thank you!
A: Babies are always warmer than us. Keep in mind these things:* Oral temperature over 99.5 F. (37.5 C.) is a fever.* Rectal temperature over 100.4 F. (38 C.) is a fever.* Axillary (armpit) temperature over 98.6 F.(37 C.) is a feverI don’t think that a temp of 100.5 is of any concern! If it’s higher than that, don’t be afraid to call the pediatrician!
