when i gave blood i held my friend’s hand and just like asked them to talk to me so we talked about a movie or something distracting. i felt the needle go in but it was more “ow” than “OUCH”

A: Let your doctor/dentist/whoever know before hand…I am terrified of needles recently i’ve had several for tooth fillings, a blood test and a jab… I’m always completely honest with the person administering the deed, explaining that I am terrified… The medical staff are experienced enough to ensure that its as gentle and pain free as possible…They’ll monitor you, explain whats happening, get you to lay down if you are more comfortable there etc….

Q: I am 14 years old and have to have my HPV vaccination in two days. Problem is though, I have a very strong phobia of needles and having blood taken. Whenever I think about the injection it feels like I’m about to burst into tears, but I know I have to have it to prevent cervical cancer! A: Okay say when you’re getting a shot , the doctors tell you to breath in and breath out or Close your eyes , or stare at something on the wall or somewhere. Do that when you’re getting blood taken! Don’t worry. Every-thing’s gonna be okay.
