- Q: whats the death rate in swine flu compared to death rate in common flu, lets take it over past 6 months. there is lots of discussion about swine flu death, but i would think there is more deaths with common flue
- A: It’s not the number of deaths per se, it’s extremely infectious and has already spread dangerously. We do not have the ability to fight the disease as quickly as needed. The infection is an animal disease and humans don’t have immune systems able to handle it. There are over 21,000 deaths from swine flu so far. With the amount of international traveling, I think that warrants worrying.

- What is the difference in death rate between he Swine flu of today and the 1918 Influenza epidemic?
- Q: I would prefer exact numbers and in terms of Australia but it is ok if it is more generlxx it is for an assignment i am doingthanks in advance
- A: not sure of exact numbers, but more people died as a result of the 1918 influenza epidemic than of the First World War! That is obviously considerable more than those who have died of the Swine Flu in recent months. It is thought that anywhere from 50 – 100 million people were killed world wide by the Spanish Flu. In Australia approx 12,000 people died from Spanish flu. By 6 July ’09 there was only 429 confirmed deaths of Swine Flu. By 5th Aug ’09 only 70 Australians had died of swine flu. Basically, the spanish flu was considerable worse than swine flu.
