What is the best way of getting rid of a head cold without visiting the doctor?
Q: I know it sounds weird, but I was just wondering how to get rid of a hold cold quickly without visiting the doctor’s office? I don’t like visiting the doctor and having to wait like forever to see him and all he does is give me something that will last a few days. All I want to know is that is there any remedies or any way to get rid of a head cold that is simple and easy? By simple and easy, I mean that I want to know someway of getting some products in the store or supermarket and using them at home that are actually going to work.
A: OTC medicines will help your symptoms, but they will not speed up your healing. When you’re sick, your body has to use more energy to fight the infection, so getting extra rest will help, along with drinking plenty of fluids. Painkillers, cough medicines and decongestants will just help you feel better while you’re getting better. For a simple cold, there’s not much your doctor can do anyway: he or she will tell you what I said above. Since a cold is caused by a virus (not bacteria), antibiotics don’t help and there aren’t any fancy drugs to help get rid of it. Take it easy & hope you feel better.

A: Take a pseudophedrine/Motrin combination pill, (but only take one at a time, can cause heart palpitations) and some nose spray. Thank God for Afrin. I had that cold, and it sucks, doesn’t it? At least you will be able to breath while you are getting better. You will feel better tomorrow or the next day…I promise!

Q: i feel so misserable. i have taken tylenol sinus, but it didnt help at all..plus my head is pounding w/ a runny nose. help thanks
A: You cannot get “rid” of a cold, it must run it’s course. First you need to take an OTC medicine that only contains what you need for this particular virus so read labels. If you develop other symptoms or you suddenly get worse you may have a bacterial infection as well such as with a sinus infection. Other than that, rest, fluids and patience are what are required.
