What causes scoliosis? Why does it effect males more than females? And is there any treatment?
Q: What causes scoliosis? And does it effect males more than females?
A: In most cases, the cause of scoliosis is unknown (idiopathic). Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is the most common form of scoliosis. Girls are about twice as likely as boys to have this type of scoliosis. There are three other main types of scoliosis:In functional scoliosis, the spine is normal, but an abnormal curve develops because of a problem somewhere else in the body (i.e. one leg being shorter than the other). In neuromuscular scoliosis, there is a problem when the bones of the spine are formed. Degenerative scoliosis occurs in older adults and is due to arthritis, weakening of ligaments and other soft tissues, &/or bone spurs.

When scoliosis causes trouble breathing can that make the heart work harder?
Q: answer ASAP
A: I am not certain of the heart-lung connection, but there is probably at least an indirect relation. Scoliosis will definitely interfere with breathing, as the degree of abnormal curvature gets worse. I’d recommend that you investigate the Schroth method, which is a kind of specialized physical therapy for scoliosis. It aims both to de-rotate (untwist) the twisted spine and rib cage, and to improve lung capacity (so-called vital capacity). Search the web on Schroth method to find a therapist. I’ll list below the personal web page of the longtime director of the German Schroth clinic and her book that describes her system.
