- A: They could diagnose it during a sleep study. They hook up electrodes all over your head and a few other places, and they watch you sleep. Sleep studies are a little strange. You sleep about five or six hours, then they wake you up and send you home around 5 a.m. Also, I think RLS is often simply diagnosed through questions & answers. "Do you feel like you need to get up and run, when you're trying to get to sleep?" Or whatever.
