Why is the nat’l poison control number 1 800 222 1222?
Q: We all know 911 for emergency… but to directly call a regional poison (the place to call if your dopey kid swallows all of your antidepressants and pain meds….) control number you have that stupid little 1 in the mix and it don’t make any sense! It should be all 2’s tht would make it easy to remember. It should be voted on and whoever owns that other number should trade… I just don’t see any good reason for it not to be all something super easy to remember! (because if you call 911, they have to turn around and call them with you on the other line and all.) I would prefer to call them myself, and not have some half asleep dispacher try to relay a dificult message and get an ambulance rolling and get your info, deal with all of those other wonderful services they deal with all at once ( dispachers are really great people, but they have way toooo much to do! )
A: Whats the problem with this number…it doesn’t seem to be hard to remember.
Have you ever used the animal poison control number?
Q: This is more of an FYI:I was out for about 3 hours today and while I was gone my dopey puppy ate a little bottle (1 oz) of hand lotion. So I called the National Animal Poison Control Hotline, which is the ASPCA. I got a 2 minute recording telling me all about how they help animals. Then I was directed me to dial 1 for new cases, which I did and got the SAME speech again! Then another 2 minute speech about how and why they charge a $55 fee just to talk to someone!I’m all for the ASPCA and the work they do, I even donate cash and blankets to them a few times a year … but $55 ?!?! That’s insane! I could see $5 or $10.Anyway, instead I called the National Poison Control Center, a LIVE person picked up on the 2nd ring and he was super nice and very helpful.PS My dog is fineHey SC- I never said the ASPCA didn’t do important work, etc. But if they’re so concerned with the well being of an animal that may have been poisoned they should ANSWER the phone when it rings and not make you go through all of the recordings and THEN take the time to take your credit card number and confirm it, etc. If I had waited through all of that crap I would have been on the phone BEFORE talking to someone for almost 6 minutes! But calling the National number I had a wait time of 6 SECONDS!A HUUUUGE diffrence in the POISON department if you ask me …… HONEY!
A: I know with a lot of companies you can override listening to that crap by dialing 0/00 or saying operator/representative. It drives me batsh** when I have to listen to recordings so I feel your pain. Sorry to hear about that, but I’m glad you got to talk to someone.SC – What the hell are you talking about in regards to this post? You completely blew off topic and went on a rant. If I recall reading and understanding this post correctly she was complaining at the fact that she had to be put through an answering service instead of talking with a customer service representative. She absolutely mentioned nothing wrong with the ASPCA itself, and even stated that she appreciated their work. This post is about people outsourcing and crappy automated phone systems, so quit jumping to ridiculous conclusions. Your response has nothing to do with what he mentioned. Discussing one’s personal experience and dislike with a service is NOT suggesting that the entire organization is somehow bad.. PS – Organizations like the ASPCA wouldn’t strive for better legislation and control if it wasn’t for their consumers and supporters giving them the scoop on both good and bad policies. Christ!

Q: help!
A: 800-222-1222In the time it took for your message to come up in the list of questions, then wait for someone to reply, you could’ve found the answer much sooner had you just did a Google search for “poison control center” (or even called 911). I hope this wasn’t a life or death situation. LOL!!!
