Q: What are the statistics, odds, or percentages? Is the bipolar depression so similar to unipolar or regular depression it means like 3 or 4 out of 4 out of our future children will get depression? Or are they so different and each has such different genetic coding that it means the possiblitily is not as high as that and that there is an equal chance but higher chance because it does run in our children’s family?
A: Depression has a genetic component, but the “nurture” side of the equation is just as important. Just because there is a family history of depression does not mean that your children are destined to become depressed.
