white blood cell count low?
Q: my dr’s office called and told me my white blood cell count was low and they wanted to do more blood work, but not until the end of April. I asked them what it meant if it was low and all they told me was it was only down by a tenth and it was no big deal they just wanted to test me again in 6 months. So now i am pretty much left in the dark for the next 6 months and worried too. They said it was no big deal but they didnt tell me what it could mean!!! Anyone know??? Becuase personally i feel if i need more blood work done they should be doing it pronto but thats just me!
A: Your white blood cells are used to fight off infections that come into the body. If the blood count is too low then the body’s immune system is not functioning properly. Cancer patients who have had a lot of chemo often have very few white blood cells and why they frequently get infections. However, if your white blood count is just down by 10% it probably just means that you’ve had a minor infection (a cold for example) and it will come up again soon. They just want to take a blood test again in six months time if it is still low but it is nothing to worry about.
What causes Low White Blood Cell Count?
Q: My doctor called and asked to do more blood work because i have low white blood cells count. is he just saying this to get me in the office for something else or he wouldn’t do that. What are the causes of this?
A: Low white blood cell count is usually lack of protein, such as meats. Some vegetarians have this and you can tell by the lack of colour in their faces & cheeks. Also having few white blood cells means it is harder for your body to fight off bacteria and infections such as the common cold.It is very important to have these white blood cells as extreme cases could result in being anemic.I would not worry about being called in, as the Doctor will help as much as they can to resolve any problems you may have.
