Can anyone fill me in on the basics about hepititus C?
Q: Someone close to my mom was just diagnosed with Hep C and I just wanted to be informed about it.Like how is it transmitted? What are the cause. What are the effects? Is it curable? If so how?Can you live with it?
A: It is only transmitted through blood, which means unclean needles (even tattoos), transfusions, and such, many people have Hep. C for years before they find out depending on how long it takes for the person to show signs, sometimes up to 20 years. the cause is a blood borne pathogen, It destroys the liver if left untreated, if technically is not curable, but there have been advances made with chemotherapy. In order to live with it you need to take extreme care of yourself, including your diet, as Hep. C attacks the liver and the liver removes toxins from your blood. To learn more do your research or contact your local health department.
When you are diagnosed with Hepititus C, is it a good thing to take Herbal Life products?
Q: Because the liver has the job of cleaning out the body. Taking Herbal Life, does is help can it have any dangerous side effects, if so what are they. Is there a web site that discusses this, pros and cons? I have found several web sites on the liver disease, however I haven’t been able to locate one that specifally addresses this issue.
A: Herbalife is nonsense. Don’t take it because it doesn’t work.If you have Hepatitis C you should be an interferon/Ribaviron regimen. If you take your chances with Homeopathy, you will die from this disease. Now this is only anecdotal, but HepC is personal for me because I watched my mother fight it and win. She did everything her doc told her to do, and took the chemo treatments religiously. She now has a zero viral count and her liver is beginning to get back to normal function. If she had wasted her time with alternative modalities she would be dead from liver failure today. If you want to live a long life, then stay away from alternative medicine.
what is Hepititus A and what are the symptoms?
Q: I’m just wondering…please let me know if you think you know what it is. Thanks!
A: It is an acute infectious inflammation of the liver. Hep A is highly contagious and is usually transmitted by the fecal/oral route, commonly within families. It usually results from eating contaminated food, milk, or water (polluted). It is often a very mild disease with symptoms similar to flu. It does not usually cause lasting damage to the liver but can cause prolonged fatigue and malnutrition, fever and aches/pains for many weeks. Other symptoms include abdo pain, clay coloured poo, dark urine and jaundice.I believe that treatment is still symptomatic and supportive. Bed rest is recommended for those people who are jaundiced and intra venous fluids etc for those malnourished.Tests include a blood test to detect antibody to hep A and liver function blood test and other blood tests. Liver biopsy is performed if chronic hepatitis is suspected.
