How can I have Strep B with strep throat symptoms?
Q: I’m a little confused.. I got a bad case of strep throat but my strep test (throat culture) came back showing that I have group B strep. I thought this was something related to pregnancy and not the strain that can cause strep throat..? How could I have it in my throat.?
A: It doesn’t cause strep throat, but it may give you a sore throat. The major difference between Strep A (strep throat) and strep B in the throat is with strep A you have the potentially serious sequelae if not treated; rheumatic fever or glomerlonephritis.
To those who are positive to group b strep?
Q: Did you experience any symptoms during your pregnancy? If so, what were they? Did you recieve the antibiotics during your labor and were they successful in preventing your baby from getting it? Did your discharge change in the last few weeks, what did it look like? Was there any pain from the GBS?Thanx ladies!!
A: Not me but my best friend…Her first child was VERY VERY sick at birth because back then her dr didn’t check for GBS! It is a simple test just a quick swab at dr office usually around 34 weeks could save baby’s life! With her 2 &3rd babies she just automaticlly tok antibotics during deliveryAlso she had C-sections with all 3 and it was still a problem, so not just a vaginal thing.
Group B strep in my urine?
Q: I’m kinda of scared…the doctors did a urine culture and they said I have strep in my urine, but they don’t really care about that unless I’m pregnant. They said it is also in my vagina. What is group b strep? If the infection is really bad, will it show symptoms? Should I go to the OBGYN?
A: It’s a bacteria that lives around the genital area in almost half of all women, just like other forms of strep and staph bacteria on our skin. It is not an STD. It is harmless to you, however, if you become pregnant and want to have a vaginal childbirth, you will have to receive antibiotics beforehand. It can be passed on to the baby without antibiotics causing pneumonia or other problems. If you opt for a C-section, it is of no concern at all.
