Where can an inguinal hernia be located?
Q: I know that an inguinal hernia is in the groin area. I basically have a bump that’s directly in the center of the pubic area. Can that be an inguinal hernia?
A: There are two main types of inguinal hernias: deep ring hernias and superficial ring hernias. Deep ring hernias are located just inferiorly and medially to the bony part of your pelvis that protrudes near the front of your hip. The superficial ring hernias can be felt in the groin area near your pubic symphysis (on your pelvic bone, just above your groin). It seems you may have a superficial inguinal ring hernia. Put your fingers on it and cough: if it is painful and bulges with the increase in pressure, it could be a hernia and needs to be addressed by your primary care physician. These hernias can be caused by holding your breath while weightlifting, or forced bowel movements caused by constipation. Get your doc to check it out.
Does anybody know the procedure of fixing a inguinal hernia in an infant?
Q: My 2 month old son has had swelling in the diaper area. His pediatrician said he has a hydrocele and a possible inguinal hernia and needed to see a specialist. Has anybody ever experienced this with an infant? If so can you please give me some information on what will be done to my baby.
A: Yes….. at two months my peditrican told us the same thing. She said it is very common in infants…. and most of the time it will close up and its own and no surgery is needed. Well we just went back to the doctor for his 4 month checkup and it corrected itself. Which is normally the case. I was quite worried about it at first….. but was glad to hear it went away. They may be sending you to a speicalist just to inform you about it. But, unless it is really severe, I would insisit on holding off on any surgery and try waiting it out. I am soo glad I did…. cause in only 2 months it corrected itself.
had an inguinal hernia operation on my left side done on 12th march?
Q: had an inguinal hernia operation on my left side done on 12th march?i had an inguinal hernia operation done on my left side done on 12th, but now my right side hurts in slight pains now and then, i dont want to go to the doctors again. i dont feel any lumps or anything, just pain, what could it mean, please help if any body knows at all.
A: This pain could be as a result of the nerves still trying to heal themselves although the surgery was done on the left side. Sometimes the other side can be affected when there is trauma such as surgery to correct a problem.I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say (you can do this by phone as well).
