What was the vets prognosis? If you are unhappy with your vet, find another one. Usually eye injuries heal fast, but I do not know about ulcers. I hope your dog gets better soon.

My pug has an eye ulcer and needs surgery?
Q: Does any one know if there are any type of programs that will sponsor my pug to have a $2,200.00 eye surgery for an ulcer?
A: Have you considered simply having the eye removed? It is called enucleation. It is cheaper than what you are considering, and will solve any future problems that might require surgery. Often, after surgeries are done to remove the ulcer and place the lens plus recovery, the dog looses sight. Doing enucleation completely solves the problem and only runs about six hundred dollars. Just because I have seen so many return visits by people having the ulcers treated, I would choose the other. The success rate in treating ulcers, especially descemetocole, is not high.

Q: My 19yr old Fjord X TB, has had an eye ulcer on his cornea for 6 weeks now,at best he opens it 3/4,it constantly weeps (clear)luckily its winter so no flies,he has a UV mask when needed, antibiotic cream daily and a sachet of bute as it must be so painful. My vet has seen him and said it could take a few weeks(3wks ago) to heal.Has anyone else had experience of horses with ulcers?
A: I have a 25 year old QH that’s had eye problems for years, including ulcers, uveitis, cancer, and so on.It’s time to get that vet out again. Eye ulcers can get to the point where the cornea actually melts. I’d want it checked again to see if it’s healing or needs a more aggressive treatment.Keeping it closed like that is a sure sign of pain. If he’s getting bute and still has this much pain… that’s not good. Some horses do heal much faster than others. My QH has had eye surgery twice; both times it’s taken 2-3 times longer to heal than the surgeons expected. It’s possible he’s just taking longer, but I’d certainly want the vet to check on it.Good Luck!
