The Staph you hear about on the news is one dangerous from which is a problem in body wounds where it may be resistant to ordinarily effective antibiotics = MRSA or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. The bacteria we mainly worry about is one form called Streptococcus or beta-hemolytic Strep; it can be carried in the throats of some otherwise healthy persons. It can be spread by kissing but usually produces a sore throat and fever in an ill person. If you get the latter, then you’ll need to get a throat swab and rapid test called a Strep screen.

We recently have moved into a forested environment on 5 acres and thought maybe it was some undergrowth she ran through. However, the vet we took her to today said it was a staff infection. This concerns me because she sleeps with us at night and I wonder if it is contagious to us. I personally still wonder whether it’s a staff infection, because I don’t know where she would’ve gotten it…but for now will go with what the vet says. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
