A: hi im a dental nurse.the 2nd stage is far better then the first as the nerve has already been removed so there will be no pain i see root canal every day and the pt feels no pain.the dentist may still give you a local for your benifitthe tempary filling is removed and the canal is filled with gutta pecha points which dont look nice but infact they are nothing campared to how they look the canal is also cleaned before filled then the crown just cemented over the remaing bit of toothyou will not feel pain i garentee xx

I had a root canal on my bottom lower tooth and had some minimal throbbing afterwards.You really just need to take some Motrin. I found that the injection site from the Novacain site was more painfull then the root canal.
