Phenylketonuric?
Q: It seems to me like every single food has phenylalanine. From what I heard, this causes cancer. I never payed much attention to it, but now, is it safe? I’m thinking it’s no big deal, but what are your opinions about it?
A: Phenylalanine is not only safe, it is an important and very common amino acid (building block for protein). Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a birth defect that causes the body to metabolize phenylalanine incorrectly making it into a damaging chemical rather than the necessary nutrient it is converted to in most people.PKU causes severe mental retardation within a few months of birth in untreated victims. As such, babies are tested when they are born for the problem. If a baby is found to have the problem, an extremely restricted diets is necessary to prevent retardation – the diet severely restricts or eliminates all proteins – meat, dairy, nuts, etc, and starchy foods such as potatoes, past and corn.As you can see, phenylalanine is a very common nutrient. If you want to see what is high in this amino acid, this query (if it works) should show you different foods that have it:http://www.nutritiondata.com/foods-000086000000000000000.htmlBasically, it is far too common to be a probable cause in cancer, since it is in almost everything we eat. And, if you have PKU, either you would know it due to the very specialized diet that you would have to follow; or you wouldn’t even know your own name.

What is a phenylketonuric?
Q:
A: Phenylketonuria is a recessive genetically inherited disorder where the body is unable to synthesis the enyzme phenylalanine hydroxylase, resulting in a buildup of the amino acid phenylalanine. This causes problems with brain development, it can lead to metal retardation and seizures. However the disease can be controlled by diet, they must eat food low in phenylalanine and high in tyrosine (the product of when phenylalanine is broken down by the enzyme).
