How do doctors know you have a brain chemical imbalance if they can't measure it?
Q: Well , I know someone who is schizaphrensic... And they told him he had a Chemical imbalance in his brain. So he asked " by how much?" The doctors told him the ydon't know becasue they cannot measure it. So , How do they even know he has a imbalance?
A: they reach the conclusion about chemical imbalances through the logic of abduction: inference to the best solution. In other words, you may not be able to see what chemicals are 'out of whack' in the brain, but we know that treating people by altering their brain chemistry reduces symptomology. For instance, somebody hypothesized that schizophrenia is related to over-production of dompamine in certain parts of the brain, so as an experiment they began treating patients with a drug called L-Dopa which blocked the action of dopamine receptors, and this seemed to reduce many of the symptoms these patients were having. therefore, the conclusion is reached that schizophrenia to some extent is related to hyperproduction of dopamine.
How do you make someone get help for a brain chemical imbalance????
Q: My mother is showing signs even more lately of some kind of brain chemical imbalance. My dad and I went and talked to a psychologist about her, and she believes she needs to be evaluated for bipolar disorder. The thing with her is that it seems she wants the behavior she has. She was incredibly abusive growing up. She prevented my father from believing me by telling him awful made up stories about how horrible I was. She goes around majorly twisting everything out of proportion in attemps to get someone against the other. She is absolutely addicted to spending. Even when I was a baby (22 years ago) she was spending like she was rich. She blames my dad and I for her never having a career, but then she tells me "I don't want to work. I have a cush life." He took away her allowance, and she won't work... so she started selling her clothes on ebay so she could buy more stuff.more below...My dad has said to her before "get help or I will leave you". She then starts manipulating her way out of it by agreeing to talk to my dad about her issues. If he threatens to leave her she begins to say "I'll kill myself if you leave."I'm the only one who really saw her truly insane side growing up. Not a day went by of my childhood that I wasn't screamed at. Most days I was abused physically. She was always putting me down telling me I was worthless. Recently, she thought about tazering me. She started laughing and had this SICK grin of pleasure on her face. She thought it would be hillarious to see me on the ground flopping like a fish going "mom stop!"She is SO good at manipulating. She can get anyone to believe whatever she wants. She just spins her lies in a way you get caught without realizing.I've totally given up on her, BUT my dad won't divorce her. Since he is choosing to stay with her... she needs help or he's going to be miserable for the rest of his life. One of the requirements for her to stay with my dad was to better her relationship with me. My dad came over my house 4 times in a month while my husband was out of town, and she freaked on him. She started acting like there was this imaginary war with me.I'm so tired of being hopeful and having my heart broken by her. My dad almost divorced her several times growing up. He didn't want me to be from a broken home... I would have rather been from one than lived in one. She's only nice to me when we're shopping. Even then, I know she's being fake to me and doesn't really like me. If my dad weren't married to her I would have nothing to do with her. She's an extremely sick hearted person.I don't know what to do. I'm at the point where I could care less about her, BUT I care about my dad. If they weren't married I would disown her as my mother.
A: Yes it certainly sounds like a bipolar disorder, in which case the bad news is it's not highly treatable with counseling or therapy. She needs to be on medication to control the mood swings, unfortunately there isn't much you can do to force her to go to see a psychiatrist. The best you can do with this type of personality is set clear boundaries with her. When she acts abusive towards you, you must tell her that this is unacceptable. If you are still living in the same house as her - get out and get your own place! I'm not a clinician, but my friends and colleagues that are have often said this is the most difficult personality type to work with as a client. Distancing yourself from her, even though she is your mother, is probably the healthiest thing you can do for yourself. She is not going to change her behavior, ever. You can only hope to control the mood swings with medication.
How do i treat chemical imbalance in my brain?
Q: The chemical imbalance in my brain is causing body chemistry. I feel weak all the time, i have eye floaters, buzzing in my years, my hair is thinning and falling out and my eye sight is getting worse. I also have a dream-like feeling, and feeling of self detatchment.
A: See your doctor. Not knowing your age, your symptoms could be of a normal slightly malnourished middle aged person. Living things go through cycles of blood toxicity and nourishment and cleaning. Thinning hair is a natural aging process caused by testosterone byproduct build up in the scalp. Maccular degeneration in the eye is not especially unexpected, check the health section in a pharmacy for eye vitamins. If you are a little malnourished 'eye floaters' and the buzzing in the ears could be an encroaching opportunistic microbe (they are permanently resident in all humans). To detoxify sweat the stuff out, get exercise and add some vitamin C to your diet, especially before a sauna sweat session (have with you a high vitamin C concentration with water or gatorade). It feels good for me. Personally I don't like the taste of gatorade.study: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Maslowhttp://webspace.ship.edu/cgboer/erikson.html
