If you sit or lay down for longer than a couple minutes then stand up and see back spots, what does it mean?
Q: all the time if i lay down for too long and then suddenly get up ill get a headache and see spots
A: This is called orthostatic hypotension. Meaning, when you lay down for a couple of minutes, your heart and blood vessels adjust to your body position (horizontal). The heart is not working against gravity (unlike when you’re standing up) so the heart pumps less blood and your arteries and veins are relaxed because there isn’t a high demand of blood flow for your body (because you’re laying down and resting). But when you get up, all the blood falls to your legs (thanks to gravity) and your heart and blood vessels aren’t prepared for the sudden shift in blood. As a result, your brain gets less blood pumped to it and this caused the black spots. But after a couple seconds, the black spots go away because the heart gets a signal from your body to increase cardiac output (pumps harder) and the blood vessels get a signal to constrict (to increase your blood pressure to force the blood in your legs to go to your brain). It’s totally normal. In the future, instead of going from a laying position to standing, try laying, to sitting, squeeze your legs a couple of times, and then stand. This gives your body enough time to readjust.
when your hormones increase does that mean that the headaches will start?
Q: does that mean that the headaches will start to occur everyday…someone help me ive been having headaches for the past two weeks off and on…what could it be from…???
A: headaches are part of pregnancy. Everyone is different, some people will get more of them, some less. Its normal. Just try taking some tylenol to help with them. Also, try to keep yourself relaxed, I think that stress brings on headaches worse during pregnancy, especially for me. good luck.
what does it mean to break the cycle of headaches?
Q: i have been checked for every possible problem with the severe headaches i have. i am now going to a new doctor who says i will have to break the cycle of headaches. what does that mean and how would that be done
A: I suffer from lifelong migraine headaches. They sem to come in slusters and can last for a couple of weeks. To “break” the cycle, I have to get an injection of “demerol” which pretty much knocks me out for a day. This breaks the pain cycle and cures the headache almost every time. That way I can go with out a headache for months. It just means finding what works for you to break up the headache and get you pain free. For my brother, he uses a nasal inhaler designed for migraines and if he uses it at the first sign of a headache, it prevents it.Good luck
