What, besides surgery is the best way to make a torn meniscus feel better?
Q:
A: IT really depends on how extensive a tear it is.Anti-inflammatory medications (aleve, ibuprofen) can reduce pain as can a cortisone injection into the knee joint.A brace is usually recommended to releave pressure on the meniscus; as is a reduction of activities that cause pain.barring those, an arthroplasty (surgery) is the only thing that will actually eliminate the tear. The others only treat inflammation and pain.

Why do you feel pain with a torn meniscus?
Q: Where does pain come from? Why does pain go after removal of meniscus (arthroscopy)?
A: I had a torn meniscus a few years ago. The joints of our knee is a fine piece of art work. The joints, muscles, and ligaments are all connected and work together to enable you to move freely. A torn meniscus is a torn ligament. The ligament is no longer smooth because of the tare. The doctor will either remove the meniscus or shave it down so its smooth again. If removed and if shaved down thinly... you should avoid sports that will require a lot of leg strength... so pretty much anything. You'll develop pains and arthritis if the bone starts to rub against each other. Save the little meniscus you have and take it easy for now. Good luck!
