after you have a head cold, can it cause white patches on your tonsils?
Q: i got a head cold about 2 weeks ago, and still have the constant runny nose/ head ache/ muscle ache/ coughing. but not as bad as the first week. I’ve notice that my throat has became swollen and i now have white patches on my tonsils, but no fever. Is this normal? Could the head cold have any relation to the white patches? please and thank you.
A: Without actually seeing the white patches, it is hard to say, but generally white patches are exudate from bacteria on the back of the throat or tonsils. Most of the time, it is strep throat that causes this white patchiness. Some people dont get fever with strep, some times people get headaches, or upset stomach, Either way- I would recommend that you get to the doc and have them run a quick throat culture. Good luck and I hope you feel better!
Does viral tonsillitis cause white patches on the tonsils or is it only bacterial that does this?
Q: I have had tonsillitis for 2 days and the pain is extremely severe. Went to the doc today and the strep test was negative but he gave me antibiotics anyways (Augmentin). My tonsils look like this with even more white ->http://farm1.static.flickr.com/85/243018488_92b1995ceb.jpg?v=0They hurt soooo bad and I am really tired and have swollen glads. Those are my only symptoms.Do you think it is bacterial or viral? can the viral kind still cause those white patches? What are the white patches? excretions? bacterial colonies?Oh and I would have asked all of this of the doc, i tried. But his accent was thick, it was urgent care and he was just hurrying me out of there so I feel kind of pushed away with no answers.
A: That looks very much like bacterial growth. You have quite the case of tonsillitis. If you do not begin to feel some better after 4 days on the antibiotic, call and check with the doctor or their nurse about whether you should come in to be seen. Not all antibiotics are the right one for a specific type of bacteria. You could be on the wrong antibiotic. Viral infections do not cause that kind of white on your tonsils. Hope you feel better soon.
Strange white patch at back of throat and white spots on tonsils?
Q: What could be the cause of this? I only just noticed these things today and I regularly check my mouth.
A: Sounds like strep throat. Most people would be experiencing symptoms of illness, but there are some who don’t feel bad when strep strikes.
