What could cause swelling of jowels around Black Lab’s mouth?
Q: 2 years old, current on vaccinations, the jowels are swollen and drooping, and it seems like she may not be able to open her mouth all the way; otherwise seems to feel okay. Could this be an allergic reaction to something? We live in a rural area so emergency trip to vet is not really an option tonight. Note: She does have a habit of catching toads in her mouth that make her mouth foam up, but I’ve never seen it make her mouth swollen. Thanks in advance for any advice for our beloved family pet!

For a lab-sized dog 75mg is a pretty standard dose (50mg if she is very small).Even if you live in a rural area you should still try calling your vet tonight. Most rural vets have answering services and will call you back to help at least advise you during an emergency situation. I know this because I used to live in a very small town and I had a 10-day old baby bunny break a leg on a Sunday evening. I called the local vet and left a message on the answering service and he called me back within 15 minutes and talked me through splinting the leg so that I could at least get it stabalized until I could get in on Monday.
