The Epstein-Barr virus causes the symptoms of mononucleosis by what?
Q: a. damaging both male and female gametesb. causing the production of excessive mucusc. infecting B cells and weakening the immune systemd. increased production of certain hormones and changes in microcirculatione. preventing the production of saliva
A: c. Like most viruses, they go through two different cycles. One is the lytic cycle. In this process infection results in staged expression levels of multiple viral proteins with the ultimate objective of producing more infectious virions. EBV virions are produced by budding from the infected cell not from multiplying and lysing the cell. The other cycle is known as the latent one. This does not result in the production of virions. There is a very limited level of viral proteins that are produced during this cycle.
