Can fluoride toothpaste cause bleeding gums?
Q: I know bleeding gums can be caused by gingivitis etc, but I wondered if using a non-fluorided toothpaste helped. I had bleeding gums off and on for ages, started using kids toothpastes, which have less, as I preferred the taste. Now using one with no fluoride in it. Since then, I have never had any bleeding gums. Could this be coincidence?
A: Maybe you also are using a soft toothbrush as before you were using a medium? Not sure about that, all I know is that after researching this, I also use NON fluoride toothpaste – I don’t want that chemical in my bloodstream!!!!!!! I have had no dental issues since switching 2 years ago, and now that I think about it, my issue with gums bleeding occasionally has ALSO disappeared – coincidence? hmmmmmm
What can cause bleeding gums besides gingivitis?
Q: As far back as I can remember, no matter how thourough I am with cleaning my teeth, my gums have always hurt and bled. My gums are not discoloured or receeding. I haven’t had a cavity since I was a kid. The only time I have problems is when I brush and after seeing the dentist for a cleaning. I have tried everything! No matter how much time and effort I put into cleaning my teeth it still hurts and bleeds! What sorts of things can cause that besides the obvious gingivitis and gum disease?
A: I read recently a similar description from someone who said that it all cleared up after his wife started serving them thin sliced onions with a little salad vinegar 2-3 times a week and adding fresh garlic to soups and stews. This might sound a little strange until you consider that the onions, garlic and vinegar are all naturally anti-biotic. In World War I and II military doctors used garlic juice as an anti-biotic (with terrific results) when other anti-biotics were not available. They knew to do this from study of history. It has been used thusly for centuries.”Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food.”—Hippocrates 400 BC
