What do you know about MRSA? The Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus “super bug’ ?
Q: Please share experiences (friends, neighbors, family, self), known signs & symptoms (stuff to watch out for), remedies to rid colonization, trials being conducted to successfully heal from MRSA, forums on the net, medical professionals who ” really know their stuff ” etc. Thank you.
A: First disregard everything you have seen on TV and the news about it, they are totally blowing everything out of proportion to try and make a sensational news story.Staph aureus is a bacteria that is a very common cause of of infections, the most common being skin infections but it can also cause pneumonia, sinus infections, meningitis, even uti although fairly rare. Initially all staph aureus bacteria were sensitive to older and more basic antibiotics, penicillins and cephalosporins. However some of the bacteria were able to gain resistance to these antibiotics and are called MRSA. Initially these bacteria where usually only found in hospitals (because thats where you have lots of infected people getting the old antibiotics and allowing some to become resistant). But not its fairly common for MRSA to cause infections out in the community. The fact is that MRSA is not any more dangerous than regular staph, it causes the same type of infections and is no more “powerfull”. The difference is you have to use newer types of antibiotics to treat it. The most common pills would be bactrim and clindomycin, if you need to get IV meds then its usually vancomycin.Ive treated hundrends of MRSA infections and all of them have responded to antibiotics with no problems.
