What are the dog’s symptoms if her ribs are broken?
Q: ***THE DOG IS AT THE VET RIGHT NOW BUT THEY ARE TAKING TOO LONG TO CALL BACK AND LET ME KNOW HER STATUS!!!***My daughter found a Siberian Husky on the side of the road last night. She is extremely emaciated and we think she has been hit by a car. She will not move, only her head and sometimes her front paw. When we tried to pick her up, she yelped really loud, almost screaming. We put her in the car and she slept there through this morning when we finally took her to our vet. We didn’t want to move her because she was in so much pain! There was no blood so I think she may have a broken rib or leg. Can you tell me the symptoms of this and maybe how much it will cost to repair her. We are going to keep her if she is not hurt too badly. She is awake, alert and licking us. We have fallen in love with her in this short time. Thanks!
A: Poor puppy. 🙁 If she is not visibly bleeding but yelps and can’t or won’t move, she may have internal damage. Either broken bones or bad bruising.Symptoms of broken ribs are, obviously, pain, immobility and labored breathing. Hopefully the Vet will take plenty of X-rays to determine what ails her. As far as costs goes, that can run up to a few hundred dollars, especially for tests such as X-rays, bloodwork or MRI’s.I really hope you are able to give this dog a loving home. Sounds like she’s in need of one. It’s really great that you brought her to your Vet in the first place. Please let us know how she’s doing when you find out.

Symptoms to look for to recognize the difference between a broken back rib or a hurt disk in the back?
Q: I fell about 10ft and landed on my left side. Ive been in pain since it happened 4 days ago. I cant tell if its just some broken ribs that will eventually heal on their own or if its worse and I may have injured a disk in my back. The pain is most noticeable when trying to roll over in bed or when trying to get up. I feel the pain in my chest so that tells me ribs but I also have a pain to the left side of my backbone. Are there ways to tell a difference without having to go get xrays?
A: 1. See a Dr. today, don’t mess with these things. Yes, it’s probably a cracked rib, but it could be a cracked vertibrae, too. 2. A disc is more likely to cause indirect pain from it pressing on a nerve in your spinal cord, for more info, see #1.
