- A: You can buy a glucometer at any drugstore with no prescription. Just get the cheapest generic or drugstore brand and that will be fine. Costs like $30 for a kit. Read the directions it is easy to do. Little children with diabetes can do it easily. Then you simply carry the meter around and test in various conditions. First thing waking up, after a meal, when you haven't eaten and so on. If it stays above 75 then you aren't hypoglycemic. If it is lower than that, document the time, and the conditions. Bring your meter with you to the Dr. and they can download and verify the reading. You do have to poke your finger or forearm but it isn't that bad. I don't use the snappy thing, I just take the lancer and gently poke my finger just barely enough I can squeeze out one drop of blood.

- A: 76 mg/dL isn't considered hypoglycemic, but it's surprisingly low given what was consumed. Then again, if that reading was taken 1-2 hours after consumption, then it's on the low end of normal. Could even be considered ideal. If that's a reading from half an hour to one hour after consumption, then it's technically normal, but a little worrisome. Coke is full of fast-acting carbs that drive up blood sugar quickly. In non-diabetics, blood sugar would drop off quickly after soda, too. That first half an hour, though, is when the spike should be occurring. My advice is that a fasting glucose be taken. If your blood sugar is below 50 mg/dL, then you might be hypoglycemic. A doctor once told me that simply being below 70 mg/dL is not hypoglycemia in non-diabetics and that non-diabetics go into that range all the time. An accurate, but effective method for distinguishing between simply low blood sugar and hypoglycemia is whether your body gets symptoms, like shakiness, dizziness, weakness, extreme hunger.

- A: I am not a doctor; I am only a pharmacy student. I think the Raynaud's Syndrome and the high ANA suggest it is probably an autoimmune disorder of some sort. So do the list of other sort of "nonspecific" symptoms. Maybe something like lupus, or perhaps a different one. I hate to name a specific disease, because there are many different autoimmune disorders & it could be anything. Of course, I could be wrong & it may not be autoimmune. I think maybe you should see a rheumatologist, however.
