What are the symptoms of gastritis?
Q: my nephew is 13 an keeps complaining of stomach aches. He says that he has heart burn, very sharp pains in the lower abdomen, and feels like throwing up. He’s been to the dr., but they only give him medicine and have never really tested him for anything. Could this be gastritis?
A: Hi,It definitely sounds like gastritis. I was also diagnosed with gastritis back in July and as long as I avoid foods that trigger it(Pizza, fries, anything fried or spicy),even over-indulging caused pain-I’ve been fine, until recently, its been coming back. Seems that some foods that didn’t bother me before are bothering me now.I need to go back to see my doctor again very soon.I know its hard to do, especially once I’m starting to feel better, I think its okay to sneak something or to over-eat and then I suffer the consequences-but your nephew should try to avoid any foods that are fried, spicy and tend to give gas because the gas pain is awfully strong. It’s as if I am over-loaded with gas and either it cannot be expelled or if it is expelled, offers no relief. It sucks to have to omit so many foods from one’s diet to avoid pain, but when you think about it, it’s usually foods that we shouldn’t be eating in the first place(with the exception of broccoli, cauliflower, beans), that aren’t good for our overall health.Hope this helps.Good Luck!
Do antacids help lessen symptoms of gastritis or colitis?
Q: I was diagnosed with haemorrhagic gastritis and I sometimes wonder if it was caused by too much acid in the stomach. Does taking antacid solve the problem?
A: Since you are having bleeding, it seems like you may have a bacteria called H. Pylori that can cause bleeding ulcers. If you have mild gastritis, antacids might provide fast pain relief. If your gastritis is more severe, you might need an acid inhibitor like Pepcid, Zantac, Axid.If those don’t work , MDs provide Proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec, Achiphex, Protonix, Prevacid, Nexium. Also avoid fried, fatty foods; alcohol; smoking; get exercise; try to manage stress.Get blood test for H. Pylori & get retested after treatment to make sure it’s gone.Google: mayo clinic>>diseases>>gastritisFeel better.
