If you have started to notice carpal tunnel symptoms, what can you do to prevent worsening conditions?
Q: I am only 26 and already starting to feel slight pain in my hands, especially with my thumbs. I have used a BlackBerry for two years and think that is causing a lot of the symptoms to develop. My thumbs now pop a lot when I bend them. I have already reduced usage of the BlackBerry and I have always used a Natural Keyboard. What else can I do? Any specific exercises or stretches?
A: Almost every job I have done since 15 can cause and aggravate c.t.s. Though it is not “officially” diagnosised, when it does activate, I wear wrist braces, which you can find at a drugstore, like the Futuro brand. I have ones with metal bars, to wear at night, and a more discreet one for the day. Other not brace type things to do…try to keep wrist as straight as possible. The nerves get pinched in carpal bones – think of nerves going in a little tunnel. If you wrist is straight, there is plenty of room in tunnel. Also make sure you are not dominating the use of one hand over the other, as much as possible. Finally, avoid any really strenuous use of wrist – such as a downward facing dog in yoga.Good luck(if worst comes to worst, think of people who are in real pain and realize a little wrist issue is nothing =)
