What are some ways to help me fall asleep that does not involve medication?
Q: I have been having trouble falling asleep and then problems staying asleep. I dont want to take sleeping pills because it says you need to devote 9 hours or more for sleep and I only have time for like 6. Your suggestion can be small like a warm glass of milk
A: you can try to exercise during the day to physically tire yourself, but don’t do it right before bed or you’ll actually stay up longer (adrenaline, etc pumping)the warm glass of milk works because when you eat the theory is that your blood circulation is increased near your stomach to aid in digestion and subsequently may decrease circulation elsewhere (brain?). if so, then you can typically eat anything, although you should try to shoot for something with a little fat content. The fat will slow digestion, so that it stays in your stomach longer. Non fat milk will shoot through you like water. You can also try things like a turkey sandwich. Turkey is high in the amino acid tryptophan which is a precursor to serotonin – which makes you happy and content and sleepy (ie after Thanksgiving dinner).my partner reads (almost anything). . . I know when I was in school, my school texts did a good job on me. then there’s the history channel or a soccer game – although I’m an avid fan and player of both, the monotone dialogue just gets sleepy. Along that line, you can try some relaxing music like classical – Pachabel or those “sounds of the ocean” if nothing else works – or maybe even if it does – then maybe you have to figure out why you’re having such a hard time sleeping – stress, problems in a relationship, work, school, etc. . . and then try to solve the underlying problem first.best of luck and sweet dreams
