You don’t. A doctor does. The swine flu is appearing earlier than the seasonal flu normally does. It lingers longer than the seasonal flu normally does.

What is the difference between the average flu every flu season and swine flu?
Q: Before swine flu, there was still flu that people catch during flu season. Does anybody know the official name of the flu that people got every flu season? And what makes swine flu so different?
A: The name of the flu that people get every flu season is usually referred to as seasonal flu. Every year the viruses that are in the seasonal flu that goes around may differ, but most of those viruses we have been exposed to at some point. Swine flu is a strain of the flu that most of us have never been exposed to before. Because we have not been exposed to it before our bodies don’t have any immunity to it. Also, there is some concern that the swine flu strain may mutate and become more deadly than it is. Right now most people that catch the swine flu are mildly sick. It is very contagious so what is most important is that you stay away from other people if you get sick. Over 2,000 university kids at just one school got sick in the first week of school. We could have a lot of sick people during flu season. Every year people die from the flu. More people die each year from the regular seasonal flu than have been dying from the swine flu. But for people with underlying health issues, swine flu has been difficult even in its current mild form.I’ve attached two articles. One tells you how to recognize swine flu symptoms and the other tells you what to do if you get sick.

Swine flu, whats the difference?
Q: Hey everyone!Ok well I was curious how do people know that they have Swine Flu? I mean isn’t it the exact same symptoms and the average cold/flu? I don’t understand so does it mean that anyone that has the symptoms of the cold/flu could possibly has Swine flu?? I mean I have a cold does that mean I should be panicking like everyone else? LOLI am just so confused can anyone clear this up for me?Thank you
A: Flu differs from a cold due to it’s severity. A cold is a virus, just as the flu is, but the flu is potentially more dangerous as it causes more severe symptoms including breathing problems which could lead to circulatory problems, pneumonia etc etc and many more Also the duration of flu is around a week to two weeks or even longer if severe. Those most vulnerable are at real risk.
