Can muscle spasms occur in the chest?
Q: I was noticing that in between the area where my left arm and my shoulder (and a little on my chest) that it spasms from time-to-time. I noticed it yesterday at work. It doesn’t hurt but it’s just bothersome. I am a 23 year old male and just want to make sure if I should be worried or not. Any suggestions on what it could be would be appreciated! Thanks!
A: Go get a checkup at the doctor’s office.Unidentified symptoms too often go unresolved, and sometimes it means nothing, other times it might prevent a worse problem later. Could be just a nerve being irritated, but get a professional opinion.
in hypoparathyroidism calcium level decreases ,so why do muscle spasm and contractions occur?
Q: low calcium level shoud decrease muscle contractions.
A: There are a variety of symptoms that are related to Hypoparathyroidism. Actually, low Calcium ( Ca ++) can cause muscle cramps. PTH ( Parathyroid hormone) works in conjunction with Vit D to regulate total body Ca++ . Hypoparathyrodism can result from congenital disorders ( born with), iatrogenic causes ( drugs, removal of the gland, radiation). Hypocalcemia ( low Ca++) is the most important consequence of hypoparathyroidism. Symptoms occur when ionized Ca++ level drops to < 2.5-3.0mg/100 ml. The symptoms are mainly neurologic, secondary to the hyperexcitability of neuronal membranes that develops in a LOW Ca++ environment. Neurologic ( Central Nervous System or Nervous System) effects:1) Extremity and periorbital numbness2) Muscle cramping and spasms3) Altered mental status4) Psychosis5) Pain6) Difficulty walkingI hope that this helped some. Continuous muscle spasm in chest, they occur randomly…?
Q: Sometimes I just don’t want to breathe too heavily because I’m afraid my chest won’t freak out or something. They occur randomly, but at multiple times during the day. Like once or twice a day, every day. I’m a female and I’m only 15 years old. Can’t go to the doctor on a whim because my mom works long hours.
A: At www.webmd.com there is a symptoms checker (small print under search bar on home page) I looked on it for what you described – you should check it. Hopefully it’s just too much caffeine or too little potassium. Be careful, the other things on the list of possibilities weren’t good.
