I had all 4 done at once as well. To my knowledge dry sockets don’t really appear until 3-4 days after the actual extraction any way. At this point the only way to really know if you have dry sockets would be to actually get a look into the…

How soon does it take for dry sockets to appear?
Q: I just had a wisdom tooth extracted and somebody told me to watch out for dry sockets. How will I even know I have dry sockets?
A: If you do develop “dry socket” you will know. This is VERY painful and can cause swelling, a bad taste in your mouth and sometimes sinus problem. It actually doesn’t happen all that often, it is more likely if you have two or more teeth pulled at the same time. It is caused by the blood clot being “torn” out of the socket. This happens a lot of times because of sucking movements in the mouth. DON’T drink thru a straw, smoke, suck on candy or chew gum for several days. After the first 48-72 hours it is much less of a risk.
How long after wisdom teeth removal can dry sockets occur?
Q: I don’t think I have it but I got my teeth removed Friday morning and actually feel nauseated when sitting up too long. Haven’t gargled any salt water, nor have I spit. I am just wondering when I’ll be “out of the clear” if that’s possible for dry sockets.
A: Most dry sockets occur 3 or 4 days after the extraction and they are almost always on the lower teeth. It is possible to get one in even a week after but the odds are much less. Good luck and baby them for a few more days.
What exactly do they do for people who have dry sockets?
Q: I got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled on the 18th, and I am not in any pain or anything, but I was just wondering what do they do if you have dry sockets? Also, how do you know you have them? I heard you have to be in excruiting pain, and have pus? Like I said, I have none of this, but I heard it’s terrible, and just want more information on it.Thank you!
A: A dry socket is a failure to form a blood clot which starts the healing process. Instead for some reason, the clot is lost and a blank, dry hole of bone and tissue remains. An infection sets in and this is extremely painful. They clean out the area, often stimulating bleeding again. They usually put some type of soothing stimulant such as oil of cloves and pack it with a fake clot like material to help the body begin to heal. They also many times give antibiotics. You can put oil of cloves into the areas yourself, but it will burn like hell, and you still may need antibiotics.
