Q: Do Smokers even care if others don’t like the smoke?I’ve been staying with my grandma because she’s had a hip replacement. She smokes a cigarette about 3 or more times an hour unless she’s asleep. I can’t go anywhere without smelling like an ashtray. I have to take a shower about 3 times a day so i don’t have to smell it (i should add that i’m allergic to smoke) and i can’t go outside alot because she can’t really do anything for herself right yet.So is second hand smoke worse than smoking a cigarette?
A: Second hand smoke is bad but first hand smoke is worse, so don’t start (especially since you say you’re allergic). It’s good that you’re willing to stay with your grandma during her recovery. Try not to fuss at her for her bad habits, though. Smoking has been outlawed in nearly every public place. It’s still legal in her home, and it is HER home. When she smokes, step outside for a while. Be respectful and don’t make her wish you weren’t there. She is your elder afterall…ex-smoker, doesn’t nag others…
Which is worse for your health: smoking a cigarette, or the second hand smoke from one cigarette?
Q: I realise both are bad, but hypothetically (if you could separate the two), is the smoke you inhale from smoking worse for you than the second hand smoke others inhale around you?
A: The person who is smoking the cigarette has 100% of the smoke going into their lungs. Part of the nicotine and tar are trapped by the lungs and the rest is exhaled. The exhaled smoke is diluted by the surrounding air before reaching other people. If you add in the carbon dioxide that a person exhales, it would make the air more polluted but you are going to have carbon dioxide in the air whenever you are near a person breathing (regardless of whether or not they smoke).Smoking a cigarette is worse for your health than second hand smoke due to the fact that the smoke has been filtered and diluted by the lungs of the smoker and the surrounding air. Also remember that the smoker is also breathing second hand smoke along with the smoke from the cigarette.
Why is second hand smoke worse than smoking itself?
Q: Because I heard second hand smoke it worse than smoking a cigarette itself. Can someone explain why?
A: well GENERALLY, when smoking a ciggerette there is a filter. This filter blocks SOME of the harmful additives and ingredients found in the tobacco smoke, therefore protecting you a little. If inhaling 2nd hand smoke produced by the smoker and not the ciggerette, then technically thats even healthier for you, because the lungs themselves act as filters. The common saying that 2nd hand smoke is worse is referreing to smoke directly produced by the end of the ciggerete before you drag it through the filter. This is worse because it hasnt been filtered.
