Is depression a life long problem

- Life-long Depression. Suggestions?
- Q: I've had problems (socially and personally) as far back as I can remember. But they're very complicated. And if you ever met me, you'd never guess I have them. I make friends very easily and appear to be very outgoing and funny. But, I haven't felt emotions in a very long time. As a matter of fact, I really don't think I ever have. I am able to mimic them, but I can't feel sadness, happiness... the only time I cry or show emotion is when I'm angry or frustrated. I didn't have a happy childhood, but it could have been alot worse (I know alot of people who had it alot worse than I did). During 6th to 8th grade, I considered killing myself. Wrote a suicide letter, had it all planned out. But didn't go through with it. Now, it's almost laughable. I would never kill myself. More background info, I'm 21 years old and have never had sex. I have never had a boyfriend or girlfriend. Never been on a date. I have alot of self-image issues. I've been overweight since the 3rd grade. I know it's not as bad as I think it is, but I can't even bare the thought of people seeing me naked (or even shirtless). I dress head-to-toe, long sleeve overshirts and jeans all day, every day (even summer).I know this seems like alot, or almost too much info. But I'm just trying to get someone else's opinion on this. It's really bad, I am completely blank all day, every day. There is so much darkness within me. I don't think I've ever been happy.No. I know what you're thinking: See a doctor. Talk to someone. Get medicine. See a therapist. No. That's exactly why I'm on YahooAnswers with this. I want to know what people think I can do without these resources. I have no medical insurance, and don't qualify for state or federal assistance.Let me know what you think.
- A: Wow. I thought long and hard about this, and I'm not sure I have anything really worth saying. I'll say upfront that I am not a psychiatrist. Without doctors, medicine or a friend to talk to I was initially uncertain of what treatment there is for depression this chronic. I would have said you suffer from a condition that renders you unable to feel emotion (there are many), but if you have been angry, frustrated and suicidal this is not the case. I would have said you have a chronic, lifelong chemical imbalance in your brain, which there is a cure for such as SSRIs. Then I read your question again, and decided not to recommend the things you specifically asked me not to.So what do I believe? People will likely give you the cliché that you must learn to love yourself, or suggest that you have Body Dysmorphic Disorder etc. While either of those may be true to a certain extent, learning to love yourself, by yourself, is an impossible task. I also don't believe that a disorder inherently based on sadness and personal insecurity is something that can be repaired through medicine.I do however believe in "talking to someone" and, from my personal observations and experiences, people with the feelings you have only overcome them when they meet another individual they truly love and respect, who loves and accepts them in return. Someone who can teach them over a long term relationship that they are worthy of being loved & desired, worthy of being alive; that they are not just a monster or an unsightly blemish on society. So I personally believe continuing to be alone is exacerbating whatever this problem is.I realize it's simple and doesn't sound very medical, but it's my opinion. You're a human and obviously a very intelligent, interesting and introspective one. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, but I hope you can find the person I mentioned and I hope they can help you overcome this. If you change your mind about "talking to someone" feel free to e-mail me through the link in my profile.I'll stop rambling now. Best wishes.
- How do I get my life-long acne problem to go away?
- Q: The first time I got a pimple was maybe in 2nd or 3rd grade. And ever since I can't remember a single day when I had a pimple free face. Since then, I have tried what I feel like is everything there is to try. I saw a dermatologist. She had me on all kinds of topicals that didn't work, I was on Acutane and that totally screwed my back up and didn't work with my acne. I've been on like 4 different kinds of birth control pills. Most recently Yasmin. I've tried proactive which didn't work. Oh I forgot to mention I am also allergic to benzoyl peroxide. I've had chemical peel treatments, microdermabrasion treatments, all very very expensive. I am now 24 and still don't know what my face looks like with clear skin. I've had depression because of it. I am married and am very luck to have found someone who could care less about my acne. But I know if I had better skin I'd be so much happier with myself which would reflect through everything else in my life. What else should I do?Thank you to those who are answering and actually being helpful. This is a really sensitive subject FYI. I am allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide which is in most OTC treatments. So I'll take a look at some of the suggested products but I can't sue it if it has BP in it. My face breaks out in itchy red rashes if I use it. I do exfoliate every night. I also have very fair skin so every little thing is so noticeable. Right now I am able to keep it from getting out of control, but it never completely goes away. I'm using the Clean and Clear acne treatment right now. But like I said, nothing I have found has made it go away. Thanks everyone for your sincere feedback. :)
- A: It never really goes away, but constant pampering can control it. I have pimple-prone skin and I get one or two pimples every two or three months due to my constant night work. You need to know four important concepts: (1) daily skin care regimen; (2) face & body ethics; (3) diet dangers; and (4) extra-curricular acne concerns. I. DAILY SKIN REGIMEN If you use make-up regularly, acne-prone skin needs a cleanser (try Cetaphil), a toner (try VMV-tretinoin-based ones to erase scars), and a light moisturizer (try L'Oreal or Obagi).Do this regimen twice a day. Avoid washing your face or touching it for the whole day. For pimples already there, the VMV-Spot Healer may be a bit too mild since it's only tea-tree-oil-based. A stronger alternative is Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion. Try the regimen of Kiehl's. II. FACE & BODY ETHICS Your facial skin is softer and more prone to irritation than your bodily skin. Try using milder soaps or cleansers for the face. If you wash your hands more than 10 times a day, you can't do that with your face. Try drinking 8 to 10 glasses of TAP water everyday so that your body has enough fluids to wash the impurities out. Try sleeping at the proper hours in the evening. Sleep heals many diseases. III. DIET DANGERS Avoid oily-fatty foods. Do eat more citrus-based fruits and dark-green-colored vegetables. Tomatoes are great for the skin--you can either eat them or apply its juice on your face as a natural mask-wash your face after 15 minutes, though.IV. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACNE MATTERS Sometimes, pimples are caused by hormone problems. Try Diane birth control pills. It always works to clear out stubborn pimples.
- sever depression and anxiety how can I change my life?
- Q: Im 25 year old female who has been desperetly trying to cope with life long depression and anxiety. Im currently taking prozac and Buspar wich seem to be helping some with the depression, but I know It could never help solve all the problems in my life. Ive been out of work for 6 months, I lost my last job due to panic attacks. there were months where I was constantly going to the ER with crippiling fear and anxiety. Ive been going to counciling and taking my medication reguarly and trying to think positivly, Ive even tried taking steps to try and get another job. I recently had an interview that I ran out of in the middle of it with a panic attack..it was extreamly embarriousing and now I feel hopeless like I can never work agian if I cant even get through an interview. Of course because of this I have really bad finantual problems Id be homeless if it wasnt for my boyfriend paying for rent, thats another problem though Im in a relationship with a guy who is obsessed with the idealism of threesomes swinging and group sex, weve been together for 7 years he brought this up 2 years ago and its been hell ever since Ive expressed that this isnt something that id ever enjoy doing but hes unwilling to give up on this fantasy wich leaves me fealing worthless and unvalued Id have to say in prior months hes been quite addicted to pornography but as of latly hes shown absolutly no intrest in sex we havent had intercourse in almost a month and every time before then was initiated by me. I dont really have any family to speak of just my father who has remarried a woman who dosnt want me to be involved in his life anymore.. Ive asked my dad for help to perhaps move back in untill I can get back on my feet and he is unwilling to help me. this came as a major blow to me because before he was married are realtionship was alot better and I know he would have helped me if he wasnt with that woman. I do believe most loving parents would help out there children, I am not troubled I dont do any drugs or drink and dont steal and would also be able to help out around the house and pay for my own food with food stamps..I dont get it. I dont have any real friends to talk to or to help me either.. I just feel so lost like there is nothing I can do to fix my situation I keep reaching up but theres nothing there. and the worst is that I feel meaningless to the people who mean the most to me. I dont understand how Im going to be able to exsist withought being able to work, I want to be in a relationship where I feel wanted and respected, and I want family that cares about me. Im just not sure How can I fix anything?
