How can i reduce stress? I think it gave me an ulcer or something? Can anyone help with any ideas?
Q: I know most of you will probably not read all of this, but at least read the first part. Okay, I stress over the most small thing to big things to things that DON’T EVEN CONCERN me like other peoples lives. Every time i turn on the news and hear bad things to just hearing about someones bad day i get stressed about it as if i can do something about it. Its really messing with my physical health, as my hair is falling out more, my stomach pains wake me up in the middle of the night, it started doing that about a few weeks ago, I researched what could be wrong and it seems and sounds like an ulcer, and some ulcers are caused by stress because the last time i had a stomach check there wasn’t ant bacteria that did that.I cant get anything checked now because of my new current financial situation as i no longer have any form of health care. well anyways, i know i blabber a lot sometimes but what can i do to stop stressing?I tried breathing, and trying to just not worry, but whenever i hear about bad “which is just about every day somewhere in the world” I get upset upon hearing about it. I already have a lot of stress with my school work and this is just taking a toll on my health. I have always worried a lot, but i haven’t hurt so much physically. I really try to tell myself there is NOTHING I can do about such in suches bad life or day or whatever, but i just cant help but worry about whatever he/she/they/its problems are and stressing over it.It also probably is causing my chest pains as well. Worrying like this makes me more depressed than i naturally am “I have clinical/chronic depression” as all i can think about is negativity.I know it doesn’t make much sense why i would worry about other people places and things the way i do especially when i don’t have much influence over anything and cant do anything about it. Like i said, even the news, or stuff i hear about on the internet “like Iraq, or other wars” will stress the living crap out of me and depress me further. What can i do to stop it other than try in vain to either not think about it or not worry. I cant just stop watching TV, and isolate myself so l don’t ever hear about bad things. Also all this negative thinking makes me think negatively about everything else, and i am paranoid i think now, maybe not because i don’t actually believe all the bad things i think of like i or someone i love will get killed or hit by a car, or get cancer, or something bad. I think it, it feels bad, but i don’t really believe it…yet. even just thinking about how something could go wrong stresses me.I also grit my teeth in the night causing mouth pain, and sometimes l grit them unknowingly in the day and i catch myself.
A: you say none of what you’re experiencing “makes sense”. well, it does if you have an anxiety problem – which it sounds like you do. first of all, you can assure yourself that you’re not the only one, you’re not “weird” or “crazy”. if you can get help through a school counselor or something – that would be good. but in the meantime, one way is to make a safe time and place for yourself. like for example, can you make a room or a couch somewhere where there’s no outside influences (like tv, internet) for bad news, where there’s no homework staring you in the face, where people around you know to leave you alone for a while – where you can just be quiet and do something enjoyable? (listen to music or whatever). then when you start to get stressed, you go to your “time out” place and have a few minutes of peace. you may find that you need to say no to things that upset you and only expose yourself a bit at a time so that your body has time to calm down again. as far as your physical pain – that’s normal too. for your upset stomach – try an antacid or a glass of milk. for your “heart attacks” – that’s the anxiety so if you can calm yourself, those should go away or at least recede. as far as grinding your teeth, you can buy a mouthguard to pop in at night and save the muscles in your face from aching. these are all temporary fixes – if possible you really should talk to a professional about it – they may be able to prescribe something that helps or have better suggestions.
