Is MRSA Contagious If You Do Not Have An Open Sore?
Q: my boyfriend had it so can i still contract it if its gone? or is MRSA like cold sores, where they come back and leave? please give me all the information you possibly can. we are not planning on having sex. just kissing and lots of physical contact. he had it on his face and leg, but that was 2 years ago. my friend (who’s grandfather has MRSA) said i am fine and cannot catch it. please help. thanks.
A: No, MRSA is caused by a bacteria (a variety of staph. aureus), unlike herpes or other viral infections. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. He is lucky because it is very hard to treat, as I’m sure you know. But if it has been gone for 2 years, you’re both fine.
How long is MRSA contagious after patient is released and has been on anitbiotics for two weeks. Thanks?
Q: How long is it contagious after release from hospital. My husband has chf and my dr. wants to come visit we both have compromised immune systems. She has been on antibiotics for more than two weeks. Thanks
A: Your Dr. wants to come visit?!? In case your Dr. stands for daughter, she needs to ask her doctor, MRSA is highly contagious and some people take much longer to get better than others. I highly recommend asking a Dr. who was caring for the person with it.
Can a newborn that has had a Mrsa infection stay contagious for up to year? Can they be put in a daycare?
Q: I am going to be fostering a 2 month old preemie who got an Mrsa infection just after birth. They say that after the antibiotics, she no longer has the infection, but that she may be imune compromised and even contagious for up to a year. Can I put her in a daycare facility during this time?
A: My grand daughter and her baby got MRSA soon after the birth of the baby. My grand daughters arm got so swollen, she had to go to the hospital and have minor surgery. The baby has been on treatment too. I know it is highly contageous, but fortunately, even with me having Addison’s (suppressed immune system) I have not caught it. I know that my great grand daughter already has an immune suppressed system because of MRSA and the doctor told her mom that there is a possibility she will have asthma. If you do put her in day care, make sure that you have a medical release signed in case they need to take her to a hospital or that they need to call you immediatley if she flares up again. Sorry to tell you this, but it can flare up again.Best wishes for continued improvement. My poor little great grandaughter breaks out so bad sometimes that behind her knees is almost purple. I still hold her and play with her. She is so sweet. It’s odd that only she and her mom had it. None of the rest of us have. They did a culture on her sores and MRSA was confirmed.I’m not sure that day care would take her…you would have to make sure they were informed.
