Do cockapoos get sick easily and is their health good too?
Q: Im wondering if i should get a cockapoo but i don’t know if they get sick easily. So please tell me how is their health and will they do fine in canada
A: Any mixed breed dog given one of these silly names is generally going to be quite unhealthy. If Dog A has health problem X (Anything genetic- Hip dysplasia would be a good example), and bred with Dog B that has the same health problem, all puppies are more likely to have that same health problem.Only backyard breeders and puppy mills purposely breed mix breeds and they care nothing about the health of the dogs their breeding.http://stoppuppymills.org/http://home.comcast.net/~NoPuppyMillsVA/What_is_a_Backyard_Breeder_/what_is_a_backyard_breeder_.htmlhttp://www.almosthomerescue.org/whatisbyb/whatisbyb.htmhttp://www.jlhweb.net/Boxermap/reputablebreeder.html/On the myth of “Hybrid Vigor”:http://home.comcast.net/~NoPuppyMillsVA/Poo-dogs___Designer_Mutts/Hybrid_Vigor/hybrid_vigor.htmlhttp://home.comcast.net/~NoPuppyMillsVA/Poo-dogs___Designer_Mutts/Genetics_and_Hybrid_Vigor/genetics_and_hybrid_vigor.htmlhttp://www.westwinddogtraining.com/hybridvigor.pdfThere’s no such thing as a “cockapoo” and you can get a perfectly fine Cocker or Poodle mix breed from your local animal shelter, or rescue group:http://petfinder.com/
Why do Siamese cats get sick easily?
Q: My piano teacher owns five or six (indoor) Siamese cats. They are very well taken care of; however, they seem to get sick really easily. One of them recently died of a mutated version of peritonitis and was only three-years-old. I’ve also known other people with purebred cats and those cats get sick easily. Me and my husband only have owned mixed breed cats. Our current set are over six years old and they have had no major health problems whatsoever. Is the reason that purebred cats more sick is because there is inbreeding at the “catteries”?
A: I think you’re on to something with your inbreeding idea. It’s a pretty well-documented fact that lots of purebred animals carry double recessive genes which is the cause of many health problems. And of course, inbreeding is one of the causes of double recessive genes. I’ve bought the occasional purebred animal (frankly, I usually adopt from a shelter) and I like to give the pedigree a good going-over. Lots of breeders “line breed” which is deliberately breeding related animals together because they think the positives outweigh the negatives. Lots of pedigrees are available online to members of the various breeding and registering organizations.I’m with you–kittymutts are the way to go!
