How long does it take for a broken knee bone and ligament to heal?
Q: If you crack your knee bone in half from top to bottom, how long does it take to heal? In terms of walking about without a plaster cast. What’s involved with the tendon/ligament to the main muscle above the knee cap if damaged? In terms of healing time, operation and length of time plaster cast on.I know it’s a bit of string question but guess what I’ve done and I trying to find out people’s experiences to see what I could be in for.I appreciate it that level of damage could vary but I would find it helpful what other people experienced.Yes, the patella. The consultant said left to right break means operating, pining and wire it back together where top to bottom crack means leave it. Thanks for the reply, good info, especially the recouporating/stretching time.
A: Are you talking about your patella, also known as your knee-cap? this is the circular disk like protrusion at the bend of your knee. This “bone” is attached to your Femur bone, or the upper leg bone. If this has been cracked or splintered surgery may be needed to reconnect the severed halves. Any fractures of bones on average take approx. 6-8 weeks to reconnect and several weeks after that to solidify back to where they were before the injury, now as far as tendons and or ligaments go these sometimes take longer, and sadly in some cases never return to normalcy. During the period of healing while these ligaments or tendons are immobile they go through a process called “Atrophy”, which basically means they shrink from non-use, and the physio required to re-stretch them is arduous and painful. Good luck, Cheers from Canada-Tripod.

How long does it take a knee sprain to heal?
Q: 2 Months 2 weeks ago, I went to the ER for severe knee pain and I was told that I had classic symptoms of a meniscus (sp) tear. I am still in pain, there is still some swelling, and it is still tender to the touch. I went to the employee wellness office since it was an on the job injury. I have had an X-ray (no broken bones) and an MRI (Nothing was torn according to this doc). Since was a work related injury, I feel as if they are down playing this injury. After the first visit with this doc, he called it a sprain. After the 2nd visit, he said it was just damaged cartilalige (sp) and it just needed to heal on its own. On the 3rd visit I was told that it was just “growing pains” and I would just have to deal with it for the rest of my life. I am at a loss! I have an appointment with an orthorpedic doc later today. I just wanted to know what you guys think about this.I have also had 3 weeks of physical therapy (3x a week) and on the very last week, we started a new machine. I have been dealing with SHARP pains in 2 new places on the other side of my knee. Honestly, I am a tough person (Hey I had 5 brothers I better be) but I am in more pain than I should be in after an injury that is 2 months old.The Ortho doc said it was VERY bad cart. damage. I have loose bodies floating around and I have to have surgery to fix it. NOW what do I do?
A: the knee is the hardest to heal because it is the knee that holds our weight i had an ankle sprained and although they said a few weeks it took months so a knee im guessing a year or less
