He said that either i or my husband got it from some one else.. is this true
A: It is true that one of you probably got it from someone else that you were with previous to your relationship. But remember HPV is not the end of the world and it is good that they found it so soon after it began causing cervical cell problems. It’s not completely rare for it to go undetected during pregnancy. It really depends on how high your immune system was at the time. If your immune system was fairly high it could have kept the HPV in the dormant stage. I found out I had HPV last year, way before I decided to get pregnant. I was clear of any issues this past February and became pregnant in May. They did a Pap once already and so far so good (I also have a high risk strain). You just have to remember to keep getting your Paps done when you are told to. The sooner they catch any issues, the better off you are. And I swear that with a better diet and some fantastic vitamins, mine went dormant again very quickly.

A: You can have it for years, decades even, before your pap would show abnormal. There is no time limit. Most women with HPV have normal paps.
how long can hpv be in your system before being detected? is it possible to be 25 years or longer?
Q:
A: For females, it depends on how long you go without having a pap smear…..many Dr’s will test women under the age of 35 for HPV with routine pap smears.Sometimes, low-risk types of HPV can cause visible changes that take the form of genital warts. If a high-risk HPV infection is not cleared by the immune system, it can linger for many years and turn abnormal cells into cancer over time. About 10% of women with high-risk HPV on their cervix will develop long-lasting HPV infections that put them at risk for cervical cancer. Similarly, when high-risk HPV lingers and infects the cells of the penis, anus, vulva, or vagina, it can cause cancer in those areas. But these cancers are much less common than cervical cancer. Anyone who has ever had genital contact with another person may have HPV. Both men and women may get it — and pass it on– without knowing it. Since there might not be any signs, a person may have HPV even if years have passed since he or she had sex.http://www.fda.gov/womens/getthefacts/hpv.html
