Q: I never had sex but lately i am getting some white pimple on my neck. i am just a little worried because i heard that syphillis is mostly transmitted through sex and that it would be transmitted through touching someone’s sore or the fluid of the sore. You know, now a day, we ppl taking buses to work or school can easily touches someone else’s fluid on the bus’s pole when u dont even realized it. The most common way to get syphillis is thru sex, but you are right, you can get it from skin contact, but you would definitely know the person is infected…they would have sores or a rash on their body. That sore or rash would have to come into contact with a cut or abrasion in your skin or your mucous membranes, like your eyes, vagina, mouth etc. If you don’t have a cut or anything and you come into contact with a sore, you are okay…our skin is a very powerful shield. Syphilis is not a prominant STD like it used to be…there are other STDs that are far more frequent. Syphilis is easily treated, too, if diagnosed in the early stages. If it gets to the late stage, however, one can die. The disease should NEVER get that far though, not with the healthcare we have today.
